I got a letter from Lynne today, this is what it said.
Hi Tristian,
Thank you for your letter and all your kind comments about the Sons of the Dark. I'm glad to hear that you like the series.
Yes, there have been Sons of the Dark before Obie, Kyle, Berto and Samuel. When I had first conceived the series, there were going to be many Sons, some good, some bad, and their population was going to be more like a sub-culture in Los, Angeles but as I think I had previously written to you, or you might have read on one of the websites, I basically stopped writing and doing all the things that I normally do because I was needed(and wanted) to care for my husband, and then my father. Both of them developed cancer and died within a year of each other.
So now that takes me back to answering your original question. Maybe at some future date the Four will encounter other Sons but that story is a long way off. I am far behind in my writing. I dont have a release date for book 13, and still have to write it. But the outline I am working on does suggest what you thought would happen; the Daughters will reunite and Tianna's spirit will show up to help them.
But even before I can do that, I have other writing obligations I have to meet.
In your letter you wrote about a scene you had imagined and written about Tianna. I like the way you used her reanimated body versus her spirt. That shows great imagination. the Plot has good twist and turns.
You asked what gave me the idea for the Sons of the Dark series. The idea for the Sons of the Dark came from Catty's story in book 11 of the Daughters of the Moon. Catty had to meet her father eventually and I didn't think someone that evil could be living here in our world. I had already used the underworld in books 3 and 10, so I thought about using another dimension for his home.
That idea seemed to grow as I wrote about Catty, and then as Nefandus became populated, I wondered what would happen if people from our world, slipped into their world. That seed grew until the question wasn't what if someone slipped into their world, but what if someone was kidnapped and taken into that world?
Does that answer your question? For me a story usually begins with a simple idea and then it continued to grow.
Thank you for you letter and for all your kind comments. I read your letter several times because what you had written made me feel happy. Thank you so much.
Take care and I hope this coming school year will be a great one for you. Keep writing stories and books. You have a wonderful imagination and it will serve you well.
All my best,
Lynne Ewing
This was my first typed letter from Lynne, she drew a smile face and signed her name in ink. but the rest was typed. It is so sad that her husband and father died within a year of each other.
