I am so sad that the DotM series are over, but I loved the ending and it was all kind of bittersweet. However, I've decided to create my own story -- a continuation to "The Final Eclipse". Please note that I am taking this story very seriously. To me, this is not just an ordinary fanfic, but an actual continuation. I am trying to write in a style that is similar to Lynne's, so as to make this continuation more realistic. The story takes place two months after "The Final Eclipse", and yes it is about Serena. You'll find out my version of the events as to what actually happened when she stayed in Nefandus. She travels back to earth's realm to seek Vanessa's help, but it's not that easy. Read on to find out more. To whoever reads my story, thank you for taking the time to do so and I greatly appreciate it! Here it is . . . . Daughters of the Moon 14 "The Key"

(Note: the chapters might seem short, but they are actually roughly the same length as Lynne's actual chapters. The papers used in the actual books are quite small and the letters are medium-sized)
P R O L O G U E
In ancient times, when Pandora’s box was opened, limitless sorrows escaped into the world. The last thing to leave the box was hope – a last comfort to humankind. An ancient evil known as the Atrox sent a demon to devour hope, but Selene, the goddess of the moon, stopped the demon just in time. Selene took pity on the mortals for all the sufferings that they had to endure, and so she sent her daughters – powerful goddesses – down to earth to save humans from the threat of evil. One day, these daughters would fulfill their destiny and save the world from the Atrox and its shadowy Followers. When the Atrox was finally destroyed, it seemed that the good had triumphed over darkness. But another threat was fast approaching . . .

Serena closed her eyes, bracing herself for the fall. She hit the pavement with tremendous force, and pain exploded through her body. She groaned, forcing herself to sit up. She rubbed her aching arms and scanned her surroundings. She had landed in a familiar road, a few blocks away from her former high school. She stood up and studied the shadows underneath the nearby trees. None of them looked unnatural, so there was no reason to be alarmed just yet. Nonetheless, Serena kept herself alert. She started walking down the road, clutching the moon amulet that hung around her neck. The charm had always given her comfort. She sighed, and a feeling of sadness settled over her as she remembered her old life. She had been a Daughter of the Moon along with four of her closest friends and together they had fought an ancient evil known as the Atrox. Tianna had died fighting the Atrox, and when the evil shadow had finally been destroyed, Catty had lost her life as well. Jimena was no longer a Daughter of the Moon, and instead she was the mentor to the new generation of Daughters. Vanessa, on the other hand, had already turned seventeen, but Serena did not know what Vanessa had chosen. On their seventeenth birthday, the Daughters of the Moon each had to make a choice. They could either lose their powers and their memories of being a goddess, or they could choose to undergo a transformation and become guardian spirits. Serena still had not turned seventeen, yet she was sure that her birthday was near. She did not know what the date was today, so there was no real way of knowing. She shivered as a new thought worried her. She needed to find Vanessa as soon as possible, and she had to do it before her seventeenth birthday. On the eve of the Atrox’s destruction, Serena had chosen to remain in the sinister world of Nefandus and bring light into its darkness. She had wanted to return to earth at first because she had missed her old life, but her love for Stanton was too great. She eventually decided to stay with him. The memory of what had happened next made Serena’s vision blur and she blinked, trying to hold back her tears. She could not waste any time crying. She had to find her friends and save Stanton, if that was at all possible. She glanced up at the sky and the uneasiness inside her grew. The full moon was shining brilliantly against the darkness, yet it failed to comfort her the way it had once did.

Twenty minutes later, Serena found herself standing in front of La Brea High. She smiled, studying the school and its familiar buildings. Somehow, it felt strange to be back there. The sky was beginning to brighten and Serena wondered what the time was. Back in Nefandus, there were no watches or clocks – any form of timepiece was banned from that world because it reminded the people of their eternal bond to the Atrox. Even now that the Atrox was gone, the residents of Nefandus still hated timepieces. It reminded them of the long suffering that they had had to endure when the shadow was still around. When the Atrox was destroyed, Stanton had become the ruler of Nefandus with Serena by his side. Together they had managed to undo all of the Atrox’s evil, and Nefandus had become a world of light without chaos and darkness. The Regulators had become a force of good, and they now worked like policemen – they tried to stop trouble whenever possible. The servi were freed and they now lived in their own homes as they tried to rebuild the lives they had lost when the Atrox had ruled over them. Most of the Followers had become ordinary people because the Atrox’s hold on them had broken. They could no longer remember their evil past and they now lived in harmony in Nefandus. However, even though life in Nefandus had started to improve, something had gone wrong. Serena closed her eyes, trying to clear her mind. She did not want to linger on bad memories. She had to think of what her next move would be. She had to find Vanessa, but how could she be sure that Vanessa was still on earth? Maybe Vanessa had chosen the transformation after all and had become a guardian spirit. But if Vanessa had chosen to stay on earth and live a normal life, Serena had no way of knowing if she was still alive. After all, Adamantis had supposedly escaped into the earth realm. But if Vanessa was still alive, Serena did not know what to do next. If Vanessa was still on earth, then all her memories of being a goddess would have already been erased. Serena needed Vanessa’s help, yet she wasn’t even sure if Vanessa could still help her. If Vanessa had lost all of her goddess powers, then it was hopeless. Serena cursed, kicking bits of trash across the sidewalk. She had escaped Nefandus and traveled into earth’s realm in an attempt to save Stanton. Now she wondered if her journey had been pointless after all.
